About Jon Gross Photography

I provide underwater images for all sorts of applications, from fine art to commercial and educational use. I specialize in the plants and animals from the west coast of North America, primarily Washington State (USA) and British Columbia (Canada). In almost all aspects, the marine life found in this part of the Pacific rivals anything found in the hottest tropical destination. The problem is that water temperature and clarity (or lack thereof!) conspire to make it far less accessible to snorkelers and divers. The diversity and abundance of marine life in these cold dark waters is relatively unexplored, and one of my goals is to make this marine life more widely recognized.

To this purpose, I have supplied images to a range of individuals for a variety of purposes. I've worked with National Geographic photographers, government agencies, private corporations, non-profits, educational institutions, and individuals. Here are just a few of the applications for which my images have been chosen:

  • Marine life identification materials (Bamfield Research Station, Canada)
  • Museum Science Displays (Museum of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia)
  • Figures in a Doctoral Thesis, (USA)
  • Scientific presentations all over the world (various)
  • Fine Art prints for private residences (USA)
  • Educational materials for high school (Germany)
  • Various print publications around the world
